There are plenty of books available on Options. The best book I have ever read so far is by Lee Lowell. The way he treats this subject is really grasping and gives better view of understanding what are option strategy and in which context they should be applied.
Is options gambling? Yes if stock buying is gambling the same applies to options as well.
Is Indian stock options/ NIFTY Options market mature enough and retail investors friendly? I doubt if its the case. The majority are governed by FIIs I suppose(Looking at the contract sizes). The minimum amount of contract amount getting pegged at Rs.2.5 lakh for any stock or NIFTY is really a killer for small investors who have no other options than 'betting'. This appears to me a primary cause to give a view that options are betting.
