It is a heart-rending story of a husband and wife, who are at peace with themselves, but are
constantly reminded by the society of their status – of being childless. In order to meet the societal requirement, they do everything within their might, visit every temple, even traversing difficult terrains where not many would dare venture, endangering their lives and performing all kinds of

Kudos to the judges and the judgment of Madras High court !

In the context of  controversy on the book revolving around ethics, accepted norms, societal beliefs, folk lore versus historical evidences on festivities, traditions that intermingle with societal acceptances and non-acceptances, dogmas around morality and sex,  begetting a child, one of the  delivering judges being woman, Mrs. Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana , this case gets quite significance in the discussion on freedom of expression vs literary criticism.

Perumal Murugan has articulated well the issue of trauma of lack of child in the novel.
